Solar Components for Photovoltaic Systems
Photovoltaic systems depend on more than solar modules and inverters. Reliable operation also requires correctly selected components for connecting modules, carrying DC power, managing wiring and integrating system-level functions.
UHCCY Solar Components brings together photovoltaic-specific connection, cabling and supporting products used between PV modules and other parts of the solar power system.
Each product family performs a different function, so detailed ratings and selection criteria are provided on the corresponding category and individual product pages.
PV Connection Components
PV connectors provide detachable electrical connections between compatible photovoltaic cables and equipment.
They are commonly used for module interconnection, string wiring, extension cables and other DC connections within photovoltaic arrays.
Connector selection should consider the electrical system as well as mechanical compatibility. Important factors include rated voltage, rated current, cable cross-section, contact system, sealing performance and mating compatibility.
Branch connector configurations may also be used where multiple PV connections must be combined according to the system design.
Solar Cables
Solar cables carry DC power between photovoltaic modules and other equipment within the PV system.
Because PV cables are frequently exposed to outdoor conditions, their construction must be suitable for the intended electrical voltage, temperature range, UV exposure and installation environment.
Cable size should be determined from system current, voltage drop, cable length, installation method and applicable design requirements rather than selected only according to connector dimensions.
PV Junction and Module-Level Components
Junction boxes and related module-level components provide connection and functional integration at or near photovoltaic modules.
Depending on the product, these components may support electrical connection, conductor routing, bypass functions, monitoring, optimization or system shutdown requirements.
Products such as rapid-shutdown devices and PV optimizers perform specific system functions and should be selected according to the architecture of the photovoltaic installation and the requirements of the target market.
Correct Component Matching Matters
PV components operate as part of a complete electrical connection system.
A connector, cable or junction component should not be selected independently without considering the components connected to it.
Important factors can include:
- system DC voltage;
- operating current;
- cable cross-section;
- connector compatibility;
- polarity;
- contact and termination method;
- environmental exposure;
- installation temperature;
- ingress protection requirements;
- equipment compatibility;
- and applicable PV system standards.
Using components with apparently similar dimensions does not by itself establish electrical or mechanical compatibility.
